Drew Epstein’s Top 50 Fantasy Baseball Points league Rankings

Drew Epstein’s Top 50 Fantasy Baseball Points league Rankings

  1. Shohei Ohtani- Angels SP/DH

Ohtani guaranteed himself this spot last year in his historic MVP season. The clear number one provides you a rock solid pitcher AND hitter to kick start your roster.

  1. Juan Soto- Nationals OF

Soto finished the season on fire last year putting himself in MVP consideration, finishing second. My clear #1 hitter this year.

  1. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.- Blue Jays 1B

Would've won MVP most years with his performance last season. I expect him to only improve as he and the rest of the Blue Jays stacked lineup continues to mature.

  1. Gerrit Cole- Yankees SP

People will make their arguments about “sticky stuff”, but the fact is some of Cole’s best work last year came after the crackdown. I blame his less than stellar second half on his hamstring injury as he was still one of the better pitchers in the league before he suffered from it in September.

  1. Fernando Tatis Jr.- Padres SS

This is a risky one top 5 but he could easily prove to be well worth it. You won't be worrying about production, just hoping that shoulder stays in place. He found himself on the IL with a dislocated shoulder multiple times last season and opted against surgery in the offseason to fix the issue.

  1. Jose Ramirez- Guardians 3B

One of the safer picks in the first round. He will continue to rake for the Guardians. Who knows, might get a value boost with a midseason trade. Can’t rule that out with the history of Cleveland.

  1. Corbin Burnes- Brewers SP

Strikeout machine. Doesn’t walk anyone. What else do you need to hear? Extremely valuable combination in a points league.

  1. Mookie Betts- Dodgers OF

Could be getting top 3 value with Mookie this year if he stays healthy. He was phenomenal last year when he was on the field. If he slips toward the end of the first round you could be looking at the steal of the draft. Just last year he was a popular first overall pick.

  1. Brandon Woodruff- Brewers SP

The other half of the Brewers monster 1-2 punch. Not as flashy as Burnes with his K/BB rate, but as steady as it gets among starting pitchers this year.

  1. Max Scherzer- Mets SP

Coming off a typical great Scherzer year and a massive free agent contract. Expect more of the same with his new team. Another one of those guys who you know will produce all year long.

  1. Trea Turner- Dodgers SS

Will be producing in each facet of the game. Will score runs at an insane clip at the top of the great Dodgers lineup. Rare combo of power, speed, and gets on base. Another points league machine who in my opinion is becoming underrated.

  1. Bryce Harper- Phillies OF

Harper had a fantastic year which resulted in his second MVP in 2021. Starting to live up to his big Phillies contract and I expect him to pick up right where he left off.

  1.  Mike Trout- Angels OF

Much like what I said about Mookie Betts. He is a lock to produce as a top 3 player but health is becoming an issue for the Angels superstar. Trout would be my 2nd ranked player if he could be trusted to play even 130 games. I wouldn't argue with drafting him at any spot in the draft, we all know what he can do.

  1. Freddie Freeman- Free Agent 1B

We don't yet know where Freeman will land due to the lockout but it likely doesn't matter. As consistent as it gets in baseball and has been playing at an MVP level for several years now.

  1. Walker Buehler- Dodgers SP

Cy Young Contender last season. Will go deep into the game almost each time out. Safe pick in the second round and could be a solid fantasy ace.

  1.  Zach Wheeler- Phillies SP

I can pretty much say the same exact thing I just did with Buehler. Will strike out a ton while pitching deep into games.

  1. Manny Machado- Padres 3B

Slow start last season but came on strong in the second half to finish with another solid year. Machado has been producing at a high level for almost a decade and there's no reason to expect any different this year.

  1.  Jacob DeGrom- Mets SP

One of those if he can stay healthy situations. While healthy last year DeGrom was putting up historical numbers that likely would have resulted in a rare MVP win as a pitcher. DeGrom isn't getting any younger and injuries have often been an issue but could easily be the best pitcher in baseball once again in 2022.

  1.  Robbie Ray- Mariners SP

Robbie Ray was a surprise Cy Young winner last year behind huge strikeout numbers in Toronto. It remains to be seen what kind of encore he can produce in a new uniform, and if he can repeat such a surprising year. What I do know is I can’t ignore the reigning Cy Young, and he should be drafted with confidence this season.

  1. Aaron Judge- Yankees OF

Judge answered a lot of his critics last season. He had a steady, and healthy 2021 season. In a contract year I expect nothing but more of the same in 2022.

  1. Nolan Arenado- Cardinals 3B

As consistent as it gets. You know exactly what you're signing up for with Arenado and should trust him in the early rounds.

  1.  Aaron Nola- Phillies SP

Down year last year but I expect solid numbers from Nola this season. Feels like every year people wonder if this is the year Nola cements himself as an ace. Maybe this year it really is?

  1. Shane Bieber- Guardians SP

Bieber was very good last year but he lost a huge chunk of the season due to a shoulder strain. There is risk with every pitcher, so why not trust the 2020 Cy Young to return to form.

  1. Ronald Acuna Jr.- Braves OF

Another top 5 talent bound to slide in the draft due to injury. Coming off a torn ACL people will be curious to see how long it takes Acuna to return to form. I would recommend taking him with no hesitation as he's another guy who could easily be the steal in the draft, and a league winner.

  1. Kyle Tucker- Astros OF

Tucker is quietly one of the best outfielders in the league. He doesn't get talked about as such but use that to your advantage and potentially get his production at a discounted cost.

  1. Ozzie Albies- Braves 2B

One of the better second baseman in fantasy with a rare power stroke at the position. Extra base machine in a good lineup.

  1. Alex Bregman- Astros 3B

Injuries have slowed Bregman down following a great year in 2019. There's little question that he can hit. Another high upside value pick.

  1.  Rafael Devers- Red Sox 3B

Figures to put up elite power and RBI numbers once again in the middle of a strong Boston lineup.

  1. Yordan Alvarez- Astros DH

One of the best power hitters in the game. The addition of OF eligibility in some leagues would have him closer to the top 20.

  1. Wander Franco- Rays SS

The easy breakout player of the year pick. I expect him to be a popular first round pick in years to come. Perhaps he's ready to put up those types of numbers already this season.

  1.  Matt Olson- Athletics 1B

  2.  Julio Urias- Dodgers SP

  3.  Lucas Giolito- White Sox SP

  4.  Bo Bichette- Blue Jays SS

  5.  Xander Bogaerts- Red Sox SS

  6.  Tim Anderson- White Sox SS

  7.  Jose Altuve- Astros 2B

  8.  Josh Hader- Brewers CP

  9.  Luis Castillo- Reds SP

  10.  Jose Berrios- Blue Jays SP

  11. Kevin Gausman- Blue Jays SP

  12.  Sandy Alcantara- Marlins SP

  13.  Max Fried- Braves SP

  14.  Marcus Semien- Rangers 2B

  15.  Paul Goldschmidt- Cardinals 1B

  16.  Luis Robert- White Sox OF

  17.  Liam Hendriks- White Sox OF

  18.  Ketel Marte- Diamondbacks OF

  19.  Francisco Lindor- Mets SS

  20.  Bryan Reynolds- Pirates OF
